Pageants
Prejean competed in the Miss California Teen USA 2005 pageant and placed first runner-up to Stephanie Brink. In 2007 she competed in the Miss California USA 2008 pageant and initially placed third runner-up; later it a judging error was discovered and she was promoted to first runner-up. The winner of that pageant was Raquel Beezley, who was also in the top three at Miss California USA 2005.
Prejean returned the following year and won the Miss California USA 2005 title, succeeding Beezley as California’s representative to the Miss USA pageant. Prejean competed at the nationally televised Miss USA 2009 pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 19, 2009 and placed first runner-up. This was California’s third first runner-up placement in five years: Brittany Hogan was first runner-up in 2005 and Tamiko Nash was first runner-up in 2006. Her answer to the “final question” during the pageant became the subject of controversy.

I am very disappointed with the way things were handled.
She seemed to do a very good job of expressing how she felt. I am very surprised that the gay community has such an uproar about this. I have gay, lesbian, & straight friends.
All she did was state her personal belief. I do not remember her attacking any gay people for how they live, she just merely stated that she believed it was between a man & woman.
I never find where she stated that she hated anyone, or detested alternative lifestyles. Perhaps I am wrong, but as long as someone is not a hater, & loves everyone then I see no problem.
I hope that this issue is resolved. What if the gay community had a lady who was banned because she made a statement that stated that she felt like marriage should be between 2 women or 2 men, & even though she never attacked the straight community, she was banned…
You can believe, it would be news, news, news from the gay community. I don’t get this. I believe people should be allowed to marry who they want, so long as they are adults capable of deciding who they wish to be with, but why all the hate, why, why, why?
I didn’t think it was such a big deal for anyone to just state their own personal opinion. It is my hope that in the future, the gays will respect the straights, & the straights will respect the gays equally.
There should be none of this hating. It makes me sad.
good job Caroline Michelle Prejean dont ever compromise your convictions
Look at her, and listen to her, this is the reason she did not win Miss America. She has fake body parts and thoughts that are not as deep as my gold fish’s. She complains when people attack her, but she did not have a problem making an anouncement that she was taking on a personal attack against a HUGE group of “Americans” She deserves to get everything she gets and I hope she crawls into a hole to wait until people forget about her!!
Ms. Prejean did a great job sticking to her convictions and saying what was on her mind. The question was an ambush by the gay media. They did themselves a great disservice. The divide between the straight and gay communities got a bid wider on contest night. I wish her all the success in the world. She’s young, smart, sticks to her guns and she will do very well in life.
I applaud Caroline Michelle Prejean for speaking her mind; standing up for her beliefs and NOT pandering to the politically correct crowd. She won the respect of christians and righteous-minded people alike. Ms. Prejean is indeed a beauty with brains
She is a breath of fresh air.
